Benefits of Community Parks Like Foothills Park:

Parks like Foothills Park are at the core of their neighborhoods. As such, for city planners, these leisure facilities should be a high priority. The significance of parks and recreation goes beyond adding green space for the city to beautify. Residents, children and the local government all profit from providing a park or play area nearby.

1. Clearing the Air

Air pollution from cars and industry can reach dangerous levels for residents in cities like Martinez. Planting trees in recreation areas can address this issue. Each acre of tree cover can remove 80 pounds of air pollution. Across the United States, this adds up to an estimated 75,000 tons of air pollution, providing the national economy with a benefit of $500 million.

In order to obtain the most significant benefit from these green spaces, cities should reduce the use of maintenance equipment that contributes further to air pollution. In addition to eliminating pollution, trees and green spaces also use carbon dioxide (CO2) to produce food, remove it from the atmosphere and help reduce climate change. Each acre of trees removes 1.2 tons of carbon dioxide per year. An acre of trees stores 40 tons of CO2 while 32 tons of CO2 is stored in the same area of the soil.

2. Providing Connection Space

Teenagers are not the only group of people to be isolated. People rarely have to deviate from the path of going to work and returning home with the Internet. Parks are giving neighbors a place to meet each other in person. Enticing people to a park with thrilling playground equipment will get parents to take their children away multiple times. The more parents come to the park, the more likely they are to meet an increasing number of their neighbors.

When people interact with each other, they build friendships that form the basis of a community. People who were once individuals and separate families are working together in a collective to help their neighbors and their area. In a 2016 study, communities that dedicated more land to parks had residents who reported higher levels of community well-being.

3. Promoting Wellness of the Community

Americans have a problem spending too much time indoors and sedentary. Parks help solve both of these problems by providing a place for community members to get out and be active. Studies have linked the presence of an attractive park to an increase in aerobic exercise. Having a green space nearby resulted in a 25.6 per cent increase in people becoming active at least three times a week. The incorporation of outreach with a new recreation area resulted in a 48.4 per cent increase in exercise, followed by a 5.1 per cent increase in aerobic capacity.

Wellness benefits go beyond simply encouraging better mental health. Increasing green space close to people by just 10% has led to a reduction in health complaints. Simply viewing savannah-like settings led to study participants reporting less fear and anger and increased attention and peace of mind. Communities need to promote the well-being of their residents. Creating recreation areas is one way to meet the needs of both mind and body.
